Collection: Jibaro Collection
Depictions of creatures found on the island of Puerto Rico. Each animal is wearing a hat called a "pava". This hat symbolizes the "jibaro", Puerto Rican country folk. The term jibaro was once a derogatory term referring to the lower class peasantry, but later evolved to be a positive representation of the working class, and today symbolizes authentic Puerto Rican culture.
I made these art pieces with pride as an homage to my ancestry and to be enjoyed by all. I hope this collection sparks as much joy to others as I felt making them.
In the words of salsa singer, Raphy Leavitt, "Jibaro soy".
